Everything I need is on the ground
on the grounds of 理由;根据
【If something is grounds for a feeling or action, it is a reason for it. If you do something on the grounds of a particular thing, that thing is the reason for your action.】
例如:
Owen was against it, on the grounds of expense.
① be a source of 是.....
【the cause of a problem, or the place where it began】
例如:
Her son was a constant source of worry to her.
②a justification for 是....
【a reason why something is correct and morally right】
例如:
What’s the justification for paying nurses so little?
③be attributable to 可归因于…
【If something is attributable to an event, situation, or person, it is likely that it was caused by that event, situation or person.】
例如:
10,000 deaths a year from chronic lung disease are attributable to smoking.
④a recipe for 是……原因
【If you say that something is a recipe for a particular situation, you mean that it is likely to result in that situation.】
例如:
What’s her recipe for success?
hit the ground running
【to immediately work hard and successfully at a new activity.】
例如:
①Many times, they truly need someone who can hit the ground running.
②He intends to hit the ground running if and when he wins that contract.
Well, murder and rape. He hit the ground running.
【When parents ground a child, they forbid them to go out and enjoy themselves for a period of time, as a punishment.】
例如:
Thompson grounded him for a month, and banned television.
Yeah what goes up it must come down
这里补充关于“come down”的意思:表示“落下,降落 ”【If something comes down, it falls to the ground.】
例如:
The cold rain came down.
这题应该选则B,“come down on ”是一个固定用法,表示“痛斥;斥责;严格对待 ”【If you come down on someone, you criticize them severely or treat them strictly.】
例如:
If Douglas came down hard enough on him, Dale would rebel.
这里再补充一个短语:come down with ,表示“染上,得了(病) ”【If you come down with an illness, you get it.】
例如:
Thomas came down with chickenpox at the weekend.
I'm way up in the clouds
If you say that something clouds your view of a situation, you mean that it makes you unable to understand the situation or judge it properly.
例句:
①Perhaps anger had clouded his vision, perhaps his judgment had been faulty.
②In his latter years religious mania clouded his mind.
①have one's head in the clouds
【If you say that someone has their head in the clouds, you are criticizing them because they are ignoring or are unaware of the problems associated with a situation.】
【If you say that someone is on cloud nine, you are emphasizing that they are very happy.】
例如:
When Michael was born I was on cloud nine.
【If you say that every cloud has a silver lining, you mean that every sad or unpleasant situation has a positive side to it.】
例如:
As they say, every cloud has a silver lining. We have drawn lessons from the decisions taken.
