① be a source of 是.....的一个原因/根源
【the cause of a problem, or the place where it began】
例如：

②a justification for 是....的（正当）原因
【a reason why something is correct and morally right】
例如：
What’s the justification for paying nurses so little?
③be attributable to 可归因于…的，可归结于…的
【If something is attributable to an event, situation, or person, it is likely that it was caused by that event, situation or person.】
例如：
10,000 deaths a year from chronic lung disease are attributable to smoking.
④a recipe for 是……原因
【If you say that something is a recipe for a particular situation, you mean that it is likely to result in that situation.】
例如：

hit the ground running 旗开得胜，快马加鞭，全力以赴
【to immediately work hard and successfully at a new activity.】
例如：
①Many times, they truly need someone who can hit the ground running.

②He intends to hit the ground running if and when he wins that contract.
一旦他赢得了那份合同，他就打算马上全力以赴开展工作。

再补充一个【熟词生义】，作为动词可以表示：罚（儿童）不能出门；禁足【When parents ground a child, they forbid them to go out and enjoy themselves for a period of time, as a punishment.】
例如：
Thompson grounded him for a month, and banned television.
汤普森罚他一个月不能出门，并禁止看电视。

拓展：
这里补充关于“come down”的意思：表示“落下，降落 ”【If something comes down, it falls to the ground.】
例如：
The cold rain came down.
下起了冰冷的雨。
这里看一道选择题：
这题应该选则B，“come down on ”是一个固定用法，表示“痛斥;斥责;严格对待 ”【If you come down on someone, you criticize them severely or treat them strictly.】
例如：
If Douglas came down hard enough on him, Dale would rebel.

英英释义：

可能是愤怒蒙蔽了他的眼睛，也可能是他判断有误。
