①If you slither somewhere, you slide along in an uneven way.【v.(摇摇晃晃地)滑行,滑动】

②If an animal such as a snake slithers, it moves along in a curving way.【v.(蛇等)蜿蜒而行】

例句:

①Robert lost his footing and slithered down the bank.

罗伯特失足滑下了河岸。

②The snake slithered into the water.

蛇滑入了水中。

其实这个单词比较好记忆,虽然有两个意思,但它们是相互关联的。而且这个单词的开头是“s”,很容易就可以联想到“蛇”蜿蜒前行~

Romain Gary的小说 Promise at Dawn 也出现了这个表达:

to spend money on something, especially when you do not want to.

常见介词搭配:

fork out on/for

例句:

①They will fork outfor expensive coverage instead.

相反,他们会为昂贵的承包范围出钱。

②Those who went to ten different places, by contrast, forked out 1,249.

而相比之下,那些在十家不同超市分别购物的人最终却支出了1249英镑。

《经济学人》一篇关于运动与高考的文章也出现了这个表达:

举个栗子:

shell out (for)为…花费一大笔钱 【to spend a lot of money on something】

举个栗子:

You won't have to shell out a fortune for it.

你不必为它花一大笔钱。

run to 支付得起;有钱购买 【If you cannot run to a particular item, you cannot afford to buy it or pay for it.】

举个栗子:

If you can't run to champagne, buy sparkling wine.

如果买不起香槟酒,就买汽酒好了。
